Fascinating painted handcarved wooden maquette of "atomic" form signed by Helen Phillips who is a recognized American sculptor and was married to Stanley Hayter. and moved in important artistic circles.They shared a studio in Paris where cross fertilization of ideas must have occurred. This piece seems to date to the 1950's. Large scale works by Phillips were in stone and bronze, but she is also known for her abstract etchings.
